Frequently Asked Questions

Lab tests are done to diagnose medical conditions, to plan as well as monitor treatment. Please consult your referring doctor if you have further questions on why he/ she thinks you should get this test done.

This serves two purposes
a) confirms that the referred material belongs to the patient and
b) provides gross findings and section code, which facilitates reporting of the test ordered

a) If slides and paraffin blocks have been submitted, these will be returned to the patient along with the pathology report. Walk-in patients must collect these while collecting their report. Other patients will have these couriered to them along with the printout of their report and the receipt.
b) If only stained slides are submitted, it will be retained by the laboratory for its record
c) If tissue has been submitted for processing, slides/blocks are not routinely handed over with the report. If required, patient can obtain paraffin blocks or remaining tissue specimen, within the retention period (10 years).
d) Representative material will be provided against a written request by the referring doctor or patient or patient's representative. This request can be handed over in person or by email (infocop@tatacancercare.org). The representative material can be issued on the next working day after the request for them is intimated to the laboratory
e) If fluid has been submitted for processing, the remains of the fluid will be available in the lab for 48 hrs after reporting.
f) If required, we may retain one / more paraffin blocks for training/quality control/educational purposes.

Please refer to our directory of services for our turn-around-times. You can also check with our team by telephone / email / message about the tentative date of reporting. This information is also provided in your bill receipt.

We make our best effort to issue reports on time, however, delay in reporting can occur due to unforeseen circumstances (technical issues or natural calamities) the laboratory will make all efforts to reduce the delay. Sometimes, a report can get delayed because of lack of adequate clinical and other information regarding the patient. So, it is a good idea, to submit all required information to the lab up-front.

No. Our policy does not permit us to do so. However, we can inform you when your reports are ready, and the report is emailed to the registered email ID.
